B1

IDs 08FT-001 to 08FT-060, plus 08FT-186 to anyone else might be just another set of roll numbers belonging to a handful of IMT students...
But we know better!
Neither are these numbers "just another set of roll numbers" nor do they belong to a "handful" of IMT students... we're more than a handful :D
These IDs belong to a plethora of personalities who were tagged as B1, and who chose to BE ONE... :)

Be it studies, sports, debates, partying, traveling, inter bschool competitions, placements, etc etc., B1 rocked at it all!
Grapevine has it that we're nicknamed as IIMA amongst the different student groups of the batch... aptly so B)

The past 20 months have been nothing less than a roller-coaster ride for B1ers - we had our share of ups and downs (very few of the latter though ;) ), but we stuck together through them all... and piece by piece, we built the B1 Brand!

And B1 Nite on 26th February, 2010, was the best way to consummate this journey with a bunch of really special people :)

Superb execution of the plan, awesome venue, brilliant presentations, sexy innovative and kickass awards (:D), lovely videos, perfectly captured moments of "historical significance" (:P), the painstaking task of gathering the minutest of details, the memorable gifts, lip-smacking stuff on the menu, perfect ambiance, the tempo, etc etc etc.

The hard work that must've gone into making this event such a grand success is more than apparent! Marvelous job by the organizers!!
Finally, my heartfelt thanks to each and every B1er for making B1 Nite one of the most wonderful and memorable parties of my life!!

On a nostalgic note, it's funny how I dreaded those initial lectures when each and every prof that entered the class asked for an introduction from each and every B1er... now I'd give anything to go back to those classes!

All said and done, B1 ROCKKKSSS!!!!!

A few glimpses of our night, B1 Night (26th February, 2010)

Frenzy!!!

After a long, long time, we, the original gang partied together... thanks to Anchit for making it happen :)

Maybe some of us just had 1 odd KF strong (others didn't have anything), but the atmosphere was enough to give one a high!
Great run-up to tomorrow's "Be One" night... a great way to close the Marketing group "B1" chapter of our lives :)

If the 60 people in B1 were special for different reasons, there's a subgroup (a prof. told us recently that subgroups should be avoided, but what the heck!) that'll always be extra special!
That subgroup is MY GANG: Anchit, Biren Chandu, Manish, Rusti, Sid (and I of course) being the core members B)

After eons, we guys partied like we always do! Same old bakar, same photography sessions (Manish and I were the best dressed and well groomed, as usual :P), same sentiyaps and chutiyaps :)
Despite all the hurdles and stuff, planning something special, very special, for March end... hope it works out! *fingers and toes crossed*

As I've already mentioned, Friday night is B1 Night!
Gotta admit I'm shit scared of the "Be One" Awards... considering my public displays of stupidity on more than one occasion, I might be the favorite bakra of the night :P

Thank God it's Friday tomorrow! Whole day free!
Wishing for a couple of things to fall into place, and to start making some sense, then life would be so much simple! But then what fun is life minus these twists and turns :)
Hope I'm able to complete the jigsaw puzzle that my life is, before the pieces get lost...

Anyone keen on watching Karthik Calling Karthik?

SRT*

There's a reason He's called God.
Today He displayed yet another miracle... one of His many!
Shucks! I missed most of the action courtesy the Delhi visit, but I was there for THE moment!

The IMT mess was transformed into an extension of the Captain Roop Singh Stadium... Woohoo! The 500+ crowd; the noise; the cheering for Sachin; the boos for Dhoni when he kept hitting 4s and 6s (quite ironical!) without giving Sachin the strike; hoots of approval when Amla saved Dhoni's shot from reaching the boundary... it was all happening here :D

The deafening yells, the crazy dance moves, the powerful high-fives, the bear hugs that followed Sachin reaching 200 were something!
It's hard not to forget everything and everyone else under such circumstances... oh why don't we get to witness such action everyday :P

Anyway, not gonna blog about anything else today! Today's post is dedicated to Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar, the one and only God who unites all devotees of the religion called Cricket in India!
As someone tweeted: "Sachin Tendulkar - Reducing the number of atheists in India since 1989"

Off to bed! Need to stick to my new routine :D
Good night, bloggers!

Breaking the habit?

Dunno what's this abrupt change all about.
I haven't been myself of late.
It's not even midnight, and I'm sleepy... actually I've been drowsy since 8 PM!! :O
Punishing myself way too much in the gym... hehe I love catharsis! It's better than meditation ;)
Just that I miss the Gujju gym with the perennial Himesh Reshamiya songs, and the Infy gyms with relentless English rock songs... the only songs played in the Gajjiyabad gym are romantic songs! So much for exercising in peace :P
Speaking of romantic songs, "Hey ya" and "Jaane ye kya hua" from Karthik Calling Karthik are pretty good... hope the movie is good too *fingers and toes crossed*

Long walks with the gang of 5 usually keeps my mind off the pending ending... these bakar sessions are so much fun!
Lots of parties lined up... the next 2 weeks are definitely going to be a breeze! :)
Then come the exams... which reminds me - I must stop rereading old mails, and instead start focusing on the books! If only nostalgia allowed me to...

Time to gear up for the ending: need to get my cam from Okhla in the afternoon! Yippee! It's back in shape... missed it in the last month! Also need to get my external hard-disk repaired at Nehru place... hope they fix it! Need to copy lots of movies and stuff from DC++, the best thing about campus life!

Mom called to inform me about the pending fast today (a makeup for the Ash Wednesday fast that I forgot about last week)... Must remember! I somehow end up feeling hungry as hell on such days only... must resist :D

Off to bed! It's almost midnight *yawns*
Good night!!

Mera Hindi kharaab hai :P

Yep, I know! Even the subject line in Hindi meaning "My Hindi sucks" has a grammatical flaw.

It should've read "Meri Hindi kharaab hai"... apparently Hindi is a female!
No wonder we don't get along so well, हिन्ढी and I :)

A few examples of my (ab)using the Hindi lingo, unwittingly, but of course :D

Ok!
So on the recent Dream Trip of ours, we were totally amazed every now and then when travelling on the road. The reason being the breathtaking sceneries!
Anyway on one such occasion, I was mesmerized by the beautiful landscape that was unfolding in front of my eyes!

Being aware of the "Pinch me somebody, pinch me" dialog used commonly to dispel the notion of the speaker being in a dream, I used it's Hindi equivalent (or so I thought) in this manner:

"Koi mujhe chimto!!" ("Somebody give me a hug!")

Well, Chimti is the Hindi equivalent of "Pinch", so I assumed that Chimto would be its apt variation to be used in the sentence.

What ensued was people laughing out loud and pulling my leg to no end. Ouch!
Needless to say, there was no need for me getting either the Chimti or Chimtoed :D

********************************************

4 weeks ago, on a cold January morning, I made my way towards the A-lobby first floor bathroom juggling my bucket, a pair of jeans, a turtle-neck t-shirt, a towel, undergarments, and a denim jacket (it was so friggin' cold that you can't imagine walking out after a bath without at least 3 layers of clothing :P).

Finding a couple of friends chatting in the corridor near the bathrooms, I inquired of them in Hindi as to the availability of hot water in the bathrooms' geyser.

My exact words were: "गर्म पानी आ रही है?" ("Garam paani aa rahi hai?")

Voila! The guys burst out laughing! LOL!
Apparently hot water in Hindi is a male, so I should've enquired:

"गर्म पानी आ रहा है?" ("Garam paani aa raha hai?")

Soon, a mini crowd assembled there to discover what the hullabaloo was all about.
Discovering the source of the entertainment, everyone stayed back, and lots of jokes were cracked about my Hindi.

I added insult to my own injury by trying to project my learning about hot water onto the flow of a river.

I said, "Ok! I got it. So the Hindi version of "The river is flowing" should be नदी बह रहा है ("Nadii beh rahi hai?")."

Everyone burst out laughing again! I was informed about rivers being females in Hindi. Arghhhh!

So the correct sentence would be "नदी बह रही है" ("Nadii beh rahi hai?")

This, and a lots of other bloopers of mine were discussed for over 30 minutes.
People definitely had a good laugh!
But till the end I didn't get the answer to my original question: whether there was any hot water or not?! :P

********************************************

Of late a friend informed me that the hindi word "Sangharsh" means "Struggle"!

Till now I thought it meant "To succeed"...

No wonder people always stared at me (probably impressed with surprise?!) when after they asked me:

"Beta, zindagi me kya karna chahte ho?" ("Son, what do you wish to do in life?"),

I used to reply coolly:

"Sangharsh karna chahta hoon" ("I wish to struggle!")

No wonder God listened to my so called wish, and I'm an eternal struggler :P

********************************************

Many more such incidents errr accidents, but I will publish them sometime later!

Meanwhile, a dear friend is teaching me Hindi... unless of course I'm ruining her command over it :P

Be back with more in a future post...
Till then, Kripya dhairya rakhein :P

(I meant to say, "Please have patience"... please tell me I didn't goof up this time round too!!)

To say or not to say, that is the question!

"I love you a lot... I just wanted you to know", said Mumma before hanging up.
"I know you do, Mumma... you don't have to say it", I replied.
Pat came Mumma's reply: "It's better to keep restating it once in a while..."

Hmmm.
Well, I've been brought up that way... the way where you're taught to be frank about your feelings for others.
Never ever shy away from telling people how much they mean to you; how much you like/love them; how much you missed them when they're gone, et al.
And echo your feelings as many times as you truly experience them, no matter how cliched they sound!

I definitely do just that! I can't resist divulging my feelings to people close to me... but dunno, at times I get this feeling I'm doing it all wrong.
It feels like exposing the chink in my armor... some place where you can hit me, and it'll hurt the most.
Guess I need to control my emotions, and get a grip on myself... just like others do so well!

Of surprises and shocks!

Ok! When I plan to surprise someone, it usually backfires... and I end up getting shocked :P
It's a norm. Period.

Last year, a brick of half melted ice cream bore testimony to this fact.
This year, a cold McVeggie, melted chocolates, and a dried up rose remind me of the jinx.

Save for one or two occasions where I successfully pulled off a surprise, life has repeatedly given me reasons not to give surprises.
Sadly, I never learn from my mistakes :P

Of the various instances when I've made a popat of myself, I only regret that instance when I called up my old school friend with the motive of surprising him, and ended up using the choicest of abuses for his father (thinking that it was my friend I was speaking to!)... father and son had the exact same voice, for gawd's sake! :D

Anyway, had a great time at the awesome culfest of an undergrad college!
The jam session, the band performance and the fashion show brought back memories of the good ol' B.Tech. days... wow! Totally nostalgic :)
Thanks to a dear friend for inviting me... and then not inviting me... toggle toggle!
Till the end, I wasn't sure whether I was welcome or not, so I just went :P

Off to bed! Hectic weekend ahead...

WE-day and the aftermath

Had one of the most romantic Valentine Days ever... 4 lectures, stretching from morning till evening! :P
It's another matter that I missed the first 2 :(
Spent the entire day in the library, preparing for a presentation... the only best part was chatting :)
Did a nightout for Monday...
Thanks to those cold drinks, the cough went from bad to worse :P
The only thing I did in the Monday morning lecture was cough like a TB patient... wrote my diary, and followed the devastation of the South Africans at the hands of Sachin and Sehwag!

Was planning to sleep the whole day, but luckily sleep evaded me... talked and talked like never before!
Shucks! Just can't seem to get enough of some people :)

Sexy weather in the evening.
Feeling irritated about how politics ruins everything :x
A bit of roaming around before my head went for a spin :D
That whispered conversation :)

Now my droopy eyes. Want to wait for someone, but cant seem to stay up :(
Oh well! Soon... :)

Nayii baatein, puraani Dilli

Last minute plans. On-the-fly execution.
Awesome backdrop. The whiff of old Delhi.
Crowded marketplace. Yet the feeling of being alone.
That awesome rickshaw ride. That holding of hands.
That altogether different shopping experience :)
Someone's carelessness, restlessness, excess thought process, and hence the resulting tiredness :P
Ethics ethics ethics! Impressive :)
Playing coolie, lifting heavy heavy weight (:p), yet trying to grab someone's bag :)
Running out of time to do anything else.
That roller-coaster of a rickshaw ride. Woohoo!!
Walking arm in arm... hopping down the stairs to the metro station :)
That superfast metro ride. That close shave at the gate :P :P
The awesome evening in CP. The mood-swings... Ice-cream! Nothing sweet! Nothing at all! :D
Walking and talking, and forgetting to hire an auto... that constant show of the tongue :P
The sexy auto drive. The cold breeze. The nothings. The companion.
The constant chitter-chatter, better than music!
And before you know it, asta la vista :)
...

That time of the year...

The campus just took a shower.
The trees are drenched and water is still dripping off their leaves...
The usually occupied basketball court is deserted and flooded.
The library never looked more beautiful with its fragmented reflection in the myriad waterholes that now dot the cricket ground!
Those two green benches seated comfortably on the grass, facing each other, illustrate the frozen moments shared by the people previously occupying them...
Jango's muted barks can be heard in the distance.
A well blended mixture of music, bhasad and silence emanates from the various lobbies.

Just a stroll around the beautiful campus, and the mind is filled with flashbacks... wasn't it only yesterday when I set foot in IMT?!
It's hard not to start missing this place already...

From 40000 Just 1411 left

Getting to read a lot of late about the number of tigers in the country dropping to a shocking figure of 1411!
What I find disgusting rather than shocking though is that people are going crazy about it now... where were these people when the number dropped from 40000 to 35000, or say to 30000, 20000, 10000, 5000?!
Ok. Maybe better late than never, but why so friggin' late has realization dawned?!
Maybe just maybe people were waiting for the magic number of 1411.
Ooh ooh! Another guess. Probably they were waiting for the count of tigers to be so less that people can be deployed in shifts to provide manual protection to these big cats :x

Whatever. It's all a farce. Period.
