Confirmation

One year back, if someone had told me that I'd survive one year in the corporate world, it would've sounded funny! But a couple of days ago, on May 28th to be precise, I actually completed one year at this company! Needless to say, it feels good! And well, as usual, I got nostalgic :p

Left home for Infy, Mysore on the 25th of May, 2006, quite doubtful about how worklife is going to be! The moment I stepped out from that auto in front of the campus gates, I was stunned! The place was huuuge and from what portions of the place I could see, it was damn beautiful! And the cool breeze and romantic weather of Mysore gave me an all time high! It was the umpteenth instance of love at first sight!

However much I praise the Infosys, Mysore campus, it is bound to be less! I spent four months there and I shall never forget the good time I had there! It was like an extended 9th semester of college, for all of us DA-IICTians! Our college courses came in handy, and rather than indulging in studies in order to pass the training tests, we concentrated more on the extracurrics! The list is huge and there are so many things worth mentioning that I'll dedicate a separate post to Infy Mysore and the life we spent there :) Look out for that...

Anyway, my first day at work was terrible! First of all, formal wear felt so stupid! We guys were used to crushed up tees and torn jeans or cargoes, a pair of sandals, messed up hair... well hostel life can be blamed for that! So imagine our tryst with brand new undergarments, full-sleeve shirts, trousers, ties, belts, et al! On top of that, the ID card which you have to hang around your neck! Everyone looked like a genuine salesman for Videocon vaccum cleaners, I tell you :D! Getting up early, not once, not twice but every day for God only knows how long! Just the thought of it gave me goosepimples! Well lots of doubts, fears, we had but the sense of adventure and a new beginning was awesome!

Survived the first half of the first day which was crammed with sessions, and then went for lunch... the most embarrassing thing happened to me amidst the new junta there... I let my tie and ID fall into my chicken curry bowl with such force that SPLASH! Before I knew it, I had the gravy all over my new shirt, tie and pants! Yuck! How's that for starters! Rest of the initial days were spent fearing the worst about all the new things around the corner... courses, online tests, assignments, etc. But like they say, when you get done with the worst in the starting itself, the going is easy later on! After the inital hiccups, time at Mysore flew by like anything and before we knew it, it was time to leave! I still miss the place, and everything associated with it! First salary, the optimum utilisation of the facilities at the employee care centre, the walks and cycle rides around the campus, the new friends made there and sharing a renewed bond with the old ones, slowly by slowly getting moulded from a college dude to don the role of a professional, and a lot more!

After training, got placed in a department which many loathe, about which many held bad opinions, but seriously speaking, the department I am in rocks! We got posted in Pune but had to undergo training at Bangalore, and that was a terrific experience... seemed like an extension of the Mysore training! Only difference was that we were getting paid extra to be on this project-specific training!

Getting allocated to a project when back at Pune, plenty of new faces who seem to recognize each other but ignore you just becuase you're not one of them, not yet at least! Finally finding a foothold, making new friends, enjoying the work, a series of fortunate events ;), and yes! The feeling of belonging is there like never before and it feels sexy! Side-by-side, life in Pune rocks! Damn I'm so addicted to this place, the people here and the way of life I've adopted here that leaving this place will be heartbreaking! But then, there's a long time before that happens...

After a long time I think I'm typing out such a humungous post! All the credit goes to my confirmation as a regular Infy employee which happens in a couple of days... no longer will I be under probation, no longer will I be bound by the bond which was included to make sure we stick... all in all, it feels good to have one year's worth of work-experience!!

As of now, love is in the air! And coincidences seem to be helping iron out the creases in life... more about the same in subsequent posts ;)!

Accident prone

So it finally happened!
It was bound to happen sometime or the other but didn't expect it exactly one year after the last one!
That time it was Amod's new Pulsar, this time round it was mine!
Last time the speed at which it happened was 50 kmph... this time round, a measly 10 kmph! How embarrassing!
If I had Rishabh sitting behind me then, Varun was the unlucky passenger yesterday!
Both times, the fall was lucky in that we didn't have any vehicles tailing us, or else we were goners for sure!
Still have a big scar from that accident... all I took home yesterday was a scraped up palm! And oh yeah! Varun ended up with a small gash on his butt :p (but then it was so small that he realized it only after we reached home, so...)
The best part is that not a single scratch mark could be found on the vehicle, and you can be sure I scanned it thoroughly!
But I guess I'm jolted back to reality and I'll be playing Mr. careful for some time!
Luckily, I can still play the guitar, workout and do all the things I did before the incident! Just that setting my hair is a painful affair now! Ouch!!

And today in a badminton game, I smashed my heavy duty racquet into the head of my poor partner... both of us went for the shot at the same time and WHAM! He was down! Not that I'm boasting but I put every bit of my muscle power into the shot and it must've hurt bad! Luckily, he escaped with just a big fat bump on his head! Sorry mate!

Some end to a busy week! Planning to watch Shootout at Lokhandwala, and indulge in loads of bakar tomorrow and the day after! Happy weekend everyone!

The irony called life

Trust was no longer inherent... he had long since realized the importance of being prudent. It doesn't pay to get deceived under such circumstances anyway. Experience told him that.

She didn't know what trust was all about, let alone prudence. No, she wasn't ignorant... she merely saw things from a different point of view...

He scanned the people in view for that give away body language... twitching fingers, quivering eyelids, that labile tongue wetting those already moist lips... the countenance which one is apt to possess when confusion and haste override indecision leading to an erroneous move!

She saw the same things that he did but was oblivious of the details he so meticulously assimilated. She was rather amazed at the sheer number of living beings in their vehicles, rushing hither and thither on the streets that sunny afternoon. Her lovely big round green eyes took in everything yet missed such a lot.

He contemplated the movement of the vehicles, his eyes darted about focusing for nanoseconds on the indicators and the brake lights... a bit further down the street, she admired the rainbow colours, keeping track of the count of colors on her little fingers, the glint of sunlight off the colored metal having an entrancing effect on her.

No wonder he caught a glimpse of the sweaty driver, the epitome of frustration and recklessness, driving the rampant lorry coming from the opposite direction, rattling and swerving violently. His exposure to such instances in his 10 odd years of driving saw him steer clear of harm's way, if only by an inch! She in her five measly years of existence, for the first time finding herself on her own in such a crowded environment... by sheer mischance not having her tiny fingers enveloped in her parents' assuring and protective grip!

The whizzing monster hurtling down the road was the last thing she ever marvelled at as she strayed out onto the tar road... The screeching of the brakes somewhere behind told him someone back there hadn't been cautious enough, and he moved on...

Of late...

Lots of work! Delegation of tasks... Donning new roles!
Sleepy weekends! Lots of studying!
Increased pay-package! Yippee!
Dead rats in water tank stinking up every damn thing *yucky*!
60+ mileage! Bike still like brand new!
Loooooooooong telephonic conversations... like never before types (or probably I can't remember:p)
Learning to swim with my head above the surface... swallowing half of the pool's water in the process!
Excess of delicious curd! Blasphemous though it may sound, I'm in the process of forgetting icecreams!
What's that?! People scouting the web in search of my gf?! LoL!
Parties, good food, and getting back my Mountain Dew addiction!
Watched Metro... nice movie, awesome songs!
Guitar mania, strumming, chords, and what not!
One good deed for the day, almost everyday :D
Catching up with old friends, spending quality time with the new ones ;)!
Forgetting Mother's Day and realizing it only in the afternoon!

All said and done, the nagging feeling that something's missing persists!
Ever wondered why always does the traffic you're a part of reaches a standstill while vehicles on the other side of the street zoom past?!

The calls

I remember having prayed for a lots of calls when I was appearing for the entrance tests of some B-schools! God seems to have misinterpreted what I was referring to... no wonder I've been on the phone for 10 hours in the past couple of days, and things don't seem to get any better! Got lots of these calls lined up for a long, long time! And it's not someone I fancy who's on the other side of the line... almost all of it is work-related banter with my chatmates being onsite coordinators, business and development teams from Europe and the States! Damn I'm becoming good at cteleonferencing!!
Better watch out what you wish for:p
And work-life seems to be giving me good reasons to rid myself of addictions... first went coffee which seems soo yucky these days! Next thing I know, I'll be tossing my cell phone in the garbage bin!
There goes the phone again *sighs*! Au revoir...

Weekend Blues

Monday!!!
This might've sounded like Garfield's take on the first working day of the week, but it isn't! I hold an entirely different opinion about Mondays. In the words of the Frenchmen, "J'aime le jour de Lundi"!!
I'm tired and I have good reason for it! Of late, weekends seem to be the stress inducers instead of being the stress busters!
Not long ago, we used to look forward to Saturdays and Sundays, the countdown for the weekend being the sole purpose of surviving the gruelling weekdays! The scenario has changed drastically these days! Weekends now seem to be more hectic than the normal weekdays! Take the last couple of days for instance...
Anurag's birthday party on Saturday, hosted at a posh hotel, was the perfect way to enjoy the evening. Lots of fun and frolic, leg-pulling, good food, a couple of shots of Vodka, and a very happy ending in the form of the bill amounting to 4K! LoL! Yes, it was worth every moment! Felt good to know that I had the same control over my senses which I used to have back at college, and felt as sober as a teetotaler by the time I reached home after a long drive!
Sunday was very hectic! Caught the matinee show of Spiderman 3 and though everyone has been criticising the movie, I liked it! Okay so it was lengthier (it is almost 2.5 hours long) than its prequels and had it's share of melodrama, but then the story has been dealt with fine enough! Girls can't stop gushing over James Franco, so our super-hero has to find solace in all the attention the kids have to offer! Kirsten Dunst... pretty in a typical way but I somehow don't like her much! Bryce Howard... yeah! Now she's a babe! Ahem! Anyway, all I want to say is that if you're keeping great expectations after watching the promos and trailers, please don't! I'm no sadist to spoil the fun by narrating the story here... and there's a lot to describe anyway:p So do let me know how you guys felt about the flick!
Went shopping in the blazing heat and planned to alter the decor of our room in the evening! But that was not to be! Ever heard of those doors with self-locking mechanism which when locked cannot be opened from the outside unless you have the key? Well, Anand and my room has exactly that kind of a door... and just when we were ready to call it a day and turn in, we found that the door was locked and we had no key! Me and my roomie found ourselves roomless! Greattt! Inspired by all those novels I've read, I tried to pick the lock but it seemed to have too many levers and I gave up after an hour! My elderly landlord had gone to bed and he lived 10 miles away, so save for the option of breaking down the door, the task I was in the mood to undertake, we had no other choice!
Anyway, frustrated though we were, the locked room saw all 6 of us flatmates having a wonderful bakar session in Arjun and Ankur's room! This was something which we hadn't done for ages... always some of the guys used to be missing! We talked about and laughed over incidents from college, discussed crushes, and this went on till past 1 AM! Wow! And we all are early sleepers!

Come Monday, we got the room keys from our landlord, unlocked the door, cleant up and beautified the room, and left for office after 1 in the afternoon! Not much work except for a status call at about 10 PM :( So spent the whole day going through a compensation review document and working out how much extra moolah we're in for:D!

Anyway, a lot has been happening recently and not all of it is sexy, but even though I curse and fret in the heat of the moment, in the end I tend to accept my Mom's standard line, "Everything happens for the best" :)

Tag time - A score of questions

Had I been playing my part of the lazy slob, a tag would've been most welcome! But now that I have so much to blog about, and with me becoming a regular blogger *touch wood*, getting tagged is a surprise. So, thanks to Phoenix, you'll get to find out a wee bit more about me...

Disclaimer: The 11th question was missing when I was passed on the baton! Kindly refrain from any sort of assumption that I have wilfully omitted the same.

1. Pick out a scar you have, and explain how you got it:
The big (3" x 2"), dark scar on my left forearm... got it on the penultimate day of college when me and my ex-roomie, Rishabh, were done surpassing the 100 kmph barrier and had slowed down to a measly 50 kmph when Amod's newly acquired bike skidded! The rest as they say is history! We were lucky to escape with just scars and bruises... Ifelt bad for the bike though! Sorry Amod!

2. What is on the walls in your room?
Hmmm... lots of cobwebs:p!

3. What does your phone look like?
Just like a Samsung C210 is supposed to look like... dapper and dainty!

4. What music do you listen to?
Now that'll be a long list! Of late, I've been listening to songs the music of which I can play on the guitar! A painful task, but a pleasureful one!

5. What is your current desktop picture?
My childhood pic in which I'm barely 2 years old and I'm cradled in my mother's arms:) Yes, yes, I am a nostalgic fool!

6. What do you want more than anything right now?
To go back in time, not to change anything but just to live through the good old days again! Anyone coming?

7. Do you believe in gay marriage?
Lol! Get real! I might have a broad outlook but this is ridiculous! But does my opinion matter?! Such marriages are happening anyway! What the hell! Let the queens and fairies live happily ever after...

8. What time were you born?
At 0800 hours IST

9. Are your parents still together?
Ofcourse they are! Stupid question!

10. What are you listening to?
Creed's One Last Breath...

12. The last person to make you cry?
It was my pal, Bhavesh, who, on my last day at college, made me listen to a senti audio that he had made and before I knew it, I was crying after a long time... Farewells suck!

13. What is your favourite perfume/cologne?
I keep switching between the lot... liked Park Avenue at one time! Brut ain't bad either! But then there are lots of options to be tried out! Just take my advice and never use Axe's Pulse... it smells of piss:p

14. What kind of hair/eye colour do you like on the opposite sex?
Long, silky, knot-free hair and brown eyes.

15. Do you like pain killers?
Nope! Pain killers and sleeping pills I loathe.

16. Are you too shy to ask someone out?
No, I am not! Just that they are so many to choose from that I can't seem to make up my mind:D

17. Fave pizza topping?
Chicken or Mushroom topping with onions and extra cheese

18. If you could eat anything right now, what would it be?
A lot of things... I'm starved! But a fruit salad with lots and lots, and make that different flavors too, of icecream! No piiiigs, please! When do we eat?!

19. Who was the last person you made mad?
A certain person whom I've never met but who can still be held responsible for my mood swings! And boy! Just a couple of days ago, she had me fuming:p!

20. Is anyone in love with you?
Tough one! Maybe many, maybe none! How am I supposed to know?! Life is so cruel!

There! I'm done! I don't want to restrict myself to the number of people I tag. So anyone and everyone who feels like it can go right ahead and get tagged!

Happy weekend! Be sure to watch Spidey's latest heroic undertakings unless you want to read all about it in this space:p!

Flat tyre, cancelled "date", screwed up preparations...

I bet my frustration is evident from the title! Well I would've loved to have appended "... yet everything working out fine!" but it would've seemed cluttered up! Anyway happy endings should be reserved for the last!

The day I set my eyes on the half dug-up road in front of my society, I knew it won't be long before my bike is at the receiving end! As the days progressed, what remained of the Balewadi road was engulfed in a sea of pointed stones! Yikes! Anyway, maneuvering my bike through that path while ensuring minimum damage became a routine. Anyway it seemed to work perfectly until yesterday night! Got a call from a friend for a post-dinner icecream and called it a date! Left for a late dinner and felt a slight wobble in the middle of nowhere... a quick check confirmed the fact that my worst fear had come true!
Ok! Time for a reality check! It was 10 PM, I was on a road which can boast of just a couple of neat restaurants, I had no idea whether there was a vehicle repair shop in the neighbourhood, and I was stranded with a damn heavy bike to drag for God only knows how long and how far! For the first time I realized that sleek though it was, my bike was heavy, very heavy! As my friend later pointed it out, no one actually considers the weight of the bike as a USP when making up his mind on which one to go in for... one should be aware of the fact that they will at some point of time be faced with a flat tyre and will have to drag their cherished 2-wheeler! R.I.P.
Resignedly, I dragged my black beauty (which had lost some of its appeal in the last 10 minutes) to the my favorite dinner haunt! Met an old pal after ages and decided to drop off the bike at his place, which was nearby, and to get the puncture repaired the next day!
By sheer luck, discovered a partly hidden shop which repaired vehicles 24/7! Turns out a 2.5 Inch nail had ravaged the tube of my rear wheel and no chance of fixing those numerous little holes that dotted the rubber texture! Looks like all my good luck was in store for just this day, and the shop fella had a brand new tube, his last piece! So shelled out 2 Cs and was on my way, thanking God for all the miracles which never cease to happen:D
Anyway, that's that! Missed the icecream and felt bad about that, lost my apetite and all, depressed a pal who had called after a tiring day of her dance practise, but the way lots of other things worked out made me feel happy!

At the end of the day, was lying on my bed monitoring my progress in the CAT preparation front and was amazed to find that the only thing I had achieved till now was mastering a couple of tongue twisters! Sheesh! But these were really cool... will post about them next! As for the sorry state of affairs on the prep front, I was too happy to give a damn:D
